Red wine challenge to entice cruising yachts
THE Abell Point Yacht Club (APYC) will be holding its first on-water event of the year tomorrow (Friday, February 21), with an extra incentive to entice cruising yachts.
APYC commodore Damian Suckling said tomorrow’s Rum Race would also incorporate a ‘red race challenge’, with a very nice bottle of red wine up for grabs if three or more cruising yachts entered the race.
The Rum Race is open to anyone in area, with participants enjoying a twilight sail before joining in the off-water fun at Sorrento bar and restaurant.
The race will be a short course around the first buoy and back and Suckling said he would like to see as many boats out there as possible to show support for the club and sailing in the local area.
In fact, he promised he would buy a jug of beer for every yacht that entered tomorrow’s event.
Crew looking to sail are invited to come down to Sorrento’s around 3pm and ask the bar staff to put them in contact with participating skippers.
The race starts at 4.30pm and entry fees of $15 per boat can either be pre-paid at Quadrant Marine or at Sorrento’s on the day. Skippers can elect to fly spinnakers if they wish.
