Back on the bowling green in Proserpine
BOWLERS were back on the green this week with play on Wednesday afternoon starting yesterday.
The official opening day is on Wednesday, March 5 and members are asked to provide one cent sale prize for the cent sale after play.
Bowls across the district are starting to get back into the swing of things with opening days and carnivals already underway.
Take the opportunity this year to get involved both at our club and at events in other clubs.
There is a huge range of events from the purely social bowls right up to the highly competitive carnivals.
There are a number of teams now with their nominations up on the board for the club’s competitions of singles, pairs and fours.
Nomination sheets for the triples carnival coming up on Monday, March 31 will also be going up on the board shortly so start planning your teams.
The next committee meeting is Tuesday, March 11 at 10am.
There was a big weekend of play and luckily the weather stayed fine for it all to take place.
On Saturday morning, in club championship singles Nathan Dodds defeated Vince Olsen 25-12, Grahame Kinnear defeated Michael Kinnear 25-19, Jonathan Bye defeated Sandy Daffara 27-12 and Barry Saroglia defeated Dan Robinson 25-3.
In the other games John Henderson defeated Shane May 25-8, Dean Lovelock defeated Scott Hamilton 25-17 and Ben Cutrone defeated Ross Reville 25-15.
In the afternoon, championship pairs were played with some close finishes.
Dale Haack and Vince Olsen defeated Nathan Dodds and Scott Hamilton 17-16, Brian Pearce and Barry Saroglia defeated John Henderson and Rob Taylor 24-15 and Barry Zillmann (sub for Matthew Camm) and Ross Reville defeated Ben Cutrone and Scott Kinnear 19-18.
This game went to an extra end when it was tied 18 all at the end of the 21 ends that constitutes a game.
There was also one game of social bowls played on Saturday afternoon.
Dan Robinson, Shane Kinnear and Grahame Kinnear defeated Shane May, Michael Kinnear and Kevin Thorogood 24-20.
On Sunday morning a game of club championship pairs was played.
Last year’s winners Michael and Grahame Kinnear defeat- ed Arthur Williams and Philip Brown 34-16.
On Sunday afternoon, players managed to dodge the thunderstorms and two games of social pairs were played.
Fran Porter and Reg Russell defeated Kevin Duell and Flo O’Hanlon 27-14, John Lahney and Gail Camm defeated Lill Burke and Heather Brown 29-15.
Competition for Saturday, February 22 will see morning games of club championship singles to begin at 10am.
