Back on the bowl­ing green in Proser­pine

BOWLERS were back on the green this week with play on Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon start­ing yes­ter­day.

The of­fi­cial open­ing day is on Wed­nes­day, March 5 and mem­bers are asked to pro­vide one cent sale prize for the cent sale af­ter play.

Bowls across the district are start­ing to get back into the swing of things with open­ing days and car­ni­vals al­ready un­der­way.

Take the op­por­tu­nity this year to get in­volved both at our club and at events in other clubs.

There is a huge range of events from the purely so­cial bowls right up to the highly com­pet­i­tive car­ni­vals.

There are a num­ber of teams now with their nom­i­na­tions up on the board for the club’s com­pe­ti­tions of sin­gles, pairs and fours.

Nom­i­na­tion sheets for the triples car­ni­val com­ing up on Mon­day, March 31 will also be go­ing up on the board shortly so start plan­ning your teams.

The next com­mit­tee meet­ing is Tues­day, March 11 at 10am.

There was a big weekend of play and luck­ily the weather stayed fine for it all to take place.

On Satur­day morn­ing, in club cham­pi­onship sin­gles Nathan Dodds de­feated Vince Olsen 25-12, Gra­hame Kin­n­ear de­feated Michael Kin­n­ear 25-19, Jonathan Bye de­feated Sandy Daf­fara 27-12 and Barry Saroglia de­feated Dan Robin­son 25-3.

In the other games John Hen­der­son de­feated Shane May 25-8, Dean Love­lock de­feated Scott Hamil­ton 25-17 and Ben Cutrone de­feated Ross Reville 25-15.

In the af­ter­noon, cham­pi­onship pairs were played with some close fin­ishes.

Dale Haack and Vince Olsen de­feated Nathan Dodds and Scott Hamil­ton 17-16, Brian Pearce and Barry Saroglia de­feated John Hen­der­son and Rob Tay­lor 24-15 and Barry Zill­mann (sub for Matthew Camm) and Ross Reville de­feated Ben Cutrone and Scott Kin­n­ear 19-18.

This game went to an ex­tra end when it was tied 18 all at the end of the 21 ends that con­sti­tutes a game.

There was also one game of so­cial bowls played on Satur­day af­ter­noon.

Dan Robin­son, Shane Kin­n­ear and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear de­feated Shane May, Michael Kin­n­ear and Kevin Thoro­good 24-20.

On Sun­day morn­ing a game of club cham­pi­onship pairs was played.

Last year’s win­ners Michael and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear de­feat- ed Arthur Wil­liams and Philip Brown 34-16.

On Sun­day af­ter­noon, play­ers man­aged to dodge the thun­der­storms and two games of so­cial pairs were played.

Fran Porter and Reg Rus­sell de­feated Kevin Duell and Flo O’Hanlon 27-14, John Lah­ney and Gail Camm de­feated Lill Burke and Heather Brown 29-15.

Com­pe­ti­tion for Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 22 will see morn­ing games of club cham­pi­onship sin­gles to be­gin at 10am.

Af­ter­noon games of pairs are on at 1.30pm on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 22.

Dean Love­lock and Todd Mar­shall verse Wayne Han­d­ley and Jonathan Bye and Dale Haack and Vince Olsen verse Martin Corr and Shane Kin­n­ear.

There is a com­mit­tee meet­ing on Mon­day, March 24 at 7pm.
