Bowlers en­joy Bowen trip

THE last week has been a busy one with the club vis­it­ing Wan­garatta in Bowen for their open­ing day.

A large group of bowlers came along for the sec­ond last Wed­nes­day of mixed bowls and win­ners for the day were Nik Fern­bach, Bruce Pur­die and Margo Stan­ley de­feat­ing Mar­garet Heeney and Ken Ry­der 16-8.

Other games were Jeff New­man and John For­nasiero de­feat­ing Keith Beetham and Steve Tat­tam 22-19, Wally Gray and Jill Spencer beat Henny Tat­tam and Eric Bot­tle 24-12 and Ladda Pur­die, Tess Walker and Regina Aquilina saw off Rhonda Lloyd, Jim Cairns and Barry Zill­man 24-20. A great day was had by all. Busi­ness House Bowls was well at­tended also and there are some very com­pe­tent bowlers com­ing through the ranks there

Win­ners for the night were The Spares.

Cost is $15 per per­son and in­cludes bowls and din­ner af­ter the game.

Fri­day Bare­foot Bowls only saw a few hardy people come along for a roll, be­ing Valen­tine’s Day.

This Fri­day the club will be host­ing a film crew who are do­ing a doc­u­men­tary but there is plenty of room for reg­u­lar bowlers to come along. Satur­day was the sec­ond mu­sic meet at the club and was en­joyed by all who at­tended.

Eleven Air­lie Beach bowlers at­tended the Wan­garatta Bowl­ing Club open­ing day and a great day was had by all.

Sun­day so­cial bowls was also a good roll up of bowlers and win­ners for the day were Ken Ry­der and Ladda Pur­die de­feat­ing Nik Fern­bach and Margo Stan­ley 16-8.

Other games were Bruce Pur­die, Betty Ni­colle and Kevin Jewell de­feat­ing Gary North, Eric Bot­tle and Elaine Had­low 19-15 and Wally Gray and Jenny Ry­der de­feated Mau­reen Barnard and Jill Spencer 17-16.

This Sun­day is the club’s own open­ing day and all mem­bers’ friends and other bowlers are in­vited to at­tend.

Names need to be in by 12.30pm.

The day is spon­sored by Betta Home Liv­ing of Cannonvale and there will be great prizes on of­fer for the win­ners on the day.

The ladies open­ing day will be on Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 25 and other clubs from within the district have been in­vited.
