Bowlers enjoy Bowen trip
THE last week has been a busy one with the club visiting Wangaratta in Bowen for their opening day.
A large group of bowlers came along for the second last Wednesday of mixed bowls and winners for the day were Nik Fernbach, Bruce Purdie and Margo Stanley defeating Margaret Heeney and Ken Ryder 16-8.
Other games were Jeff Newman and John Fornasiero defeating Keith Beetham and Steve Tattam 22-19, Wally Gray and Jill Spencer beat Henny Tattam and Eric Bottle 24-12 and Ladda Purdie, Tess Walker and Regina Aquilina saw off Rhonda Lloyd, Jim Cairns and Barry Zillman 24-20. A great day was had by all. Business House Bowls was well attended also and there are some very competent bowlers coming through the ranks there

Cost is $15 per person and includes bowls and dinner after the game.
Friday Barefoot Bowls only saw a few hardy people come along for a roll, being Valentine’s Day.
This Friday the club will be hosting a film crew who are doing a documentary but there is plenty of room for regular bowlers to come along. Saturday was the second music meet at the club and was enjoyed by all who attended.
Eleven Airlie Beach bowlers attended the Wangaratta Bowling Club opening day and a great day was had by all.
Sunday social bowls was also a good roll up of bowlers and winners for the day were Ken Ryder and Ladda Purdie defeating Nik Fernbach and Margo Stanley 16-8.
Other games were Bruce Purdie, Betty Nicolle and Kevin Jewell defeating Gary North, Eric Bottle and Elaine Hadlow 19-15 and Wally Gray and Jenny Ryder defeated Maureen Barnard and Jill Spencer 17-16.
This Sunday is the club’s own opening day and all members’ friends and other bowlers are invited to attend.
Names need to be in by 12.30pm.
The day is sponsored by Betta Home Living of Cannonvale and there will be great prizes on offer for the winners on the day.
