Aim­ing to stop traf­fic crashes

PROSER­PINE Po­lice will be un­der­tak­ing a road safety oper­a­tion from this Satur­day March 1, with the aim of pre­vent­ing in­jury traf­fic crashes within the Proser­pine di­vi­sion.

The di­vi­sion cov­ers a large area from Greta Creek to the north and Blooms­bury in the south and in­cludes the com­mu­ni­ties of Con­way Beach, Hy­de­away Bay, Dingo Beach and Midge Point as well as those in be­tween.

The oper­a­tion named Oper­a­tion bark.

Of­fi­cer in Charge of the Proser­pine Sta­tion Sergeant Nathan Blain said po­lice would be ac­tively tar­get­ing the fa­tal five of speed­ing, drink driv­ing, fa­tigue and seat­belt and dis­trac­tion of­fences, with a par­tic­u­lar em­pha­sis on driv­ers us­ing hand­held mo­bile phones.

Sgt Blain also said po­lice would be pa­trolling in both uni­form and plain clothes and he urged all road users to take care, obey the road rules and drive to pre­vail­ing con­di­tions. will be Stringy-
