LOGAN Dachs and Alice Ruddell are the 2014 school captains of Proserpine State High School.
They were inducted at a special ceremony attended by more than 900 students, teachers, support staff and community members at the school hall.
Principal Don McDermid presented the badges of office to the new school captains who were joined by vice captains Byron Thompson and Isabelle Silberling.
Mr Dachs spoke on behalf of all school leaders and said he was honoured to take on the role of school captain.
“I promise you that we will strive to make 2014 the best and most memorable year in your schooling career,” he said. “Remember to respect yourself, respect each other, respect the teachers and their knowledge and respect this great learning institution…let’s together always strive to do the best we that we can.”
Caitlin Wharton was announced as the first Indigenous student leader in the history of Proserpine State High School.
Ms Wharton said she hoped to close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians by bringing together the local Indigenous community and school community in her new role.
The 2014 student council executive team will be led by president Ashley Muller with vice president Josh Barrett, secretary Lara Mathews and treasurer Maddi Graham.
Mr McDermid said the ceremony was one of the most important events in the school year. “Our student leaders have been entrusted with the responsibility of upholding the values of leadership at Proserpine State High School,” he said. “I want 2014 to be a year where student involvement in the school administration continues to strengthen, becoming an integral part of the decision making process.”
