Bowls season off to good start
THE 2014 bowling season started this week, with the official mixed opening day on Sunday, February 23.
There was a great turn out of members who came along for a nice day of bowling. Members should now put their names down for any club championship game they wish to participate in for 2014.
The ladies championship sheets have been available since last Tuesday, and all questions should be directed to games controller Jill Spencer.
The last mixed Wednesday competition was played before the season opener, and it was a lovely day for all involved.
Winners on the day were Henny Tattam, Keith Beetham and Rick Williams defeating Wally Gray, Jill Spencer and Steve Tattam, Ladda Purdie, Rhonda Lloyd and Margo Stanley defeating Tess Walker, Margaret Heeney and Regina Aquilina 22-20, Bruce Purdie, Nik Fernbach and Ken Ryder defeating Jim Cairns, Herb Secomb and John Fornasiero 25-11.
Other results included Bruce Purdie, Noela Whitehead and Rick Williams defeating Tess Walker, Keith Beetham and Margo Stanley 18-6. Runners-up were Henny Tattam, Margaret Heeney and Steve Tattam defeating Henny Tattam, Maureen Barnard and Nik Fernbach 17-7.

A great afternoon was had by all and thank you to Betta Home Living for sponsoring the day. As of yesterday, the men’s day will be back to men only so the jackpot will commence from then.
All members are urged to come along and kick off the 2014 year in style.
Friday night barefoot bowls saw the film crew from Shine Australia come along to film a documentry on one of the business house bowlers, which brought some excitement to the club.
Barefoot bowls will be back this Friday as usual.
The cost is $15 per person for sausage sizzle and game.
Anyone interested in coming along should call Sandy on 0488 754 184 or ring the club on 4946 7656 and leave a message.
Business house bowls was cancelled last Wednesday due to the weather.
Championship games will soon be under way, so please keep checking the notice board for when your games have been drawn.
