Junior wins Saturday comp
PROSERPINE junior golfer Matty Bluck returned to form with a good score of 40 points on Saturday to take out the Hotel Metropole monthly stableford event.
He won the event by three points in a reduced field of only 34 players who braved the wet conditions.
With the Thursday competition being cancelled due to rain-induced course closure, it was an on again, off again event on Saturday with the decision to open the course being left to the last moment.
Players were forced to once again play the front nine twice for the competition, with the back nine again being inundated.
Runner-up to Bluck was club captain Greg Walker who has been showing good form of late, coming in with 37 points to take out second on countback from Mick Kavanagh also on 37.
The rest of the rundown comprised Steve Knight on 36, Gav Noonan, Chris Weigand and Jake Nurse all on 35, with Pascal Neunreuther, Jim Dowell, and Darren Jones all coming in with 34 points.
Ladies winner on the day was Wendy Bradley with 27 points.
Nearest-the-pins went to Matt Bluck on both hole 2 and 9. The two shot club once again jackpotted with $65.60 being added to this Saturday’s event.
On Sunday, 14 Dawnies played the front nine and just got their game in before the rain came and the course was closed.
The winner was Larry Muller with a 42/42, runner-up was George Stevenson with a 56/ 42, and third place went to Barry McKenzie with 55/44. Nearest-the-pins went to George Stevenson on number 2 and Mick Burrows on number 9. Chris Henderson won least number of putts with 14 and Al Scott was the Bradman’s with 63/55.
Next Sunday the monthly mug will be held, weather permiting.
Weather permitting, Saturday players will compete in an 18-hole club sponsored event, with Thursday players competing over both 9 and 18holes in a stroke event.
With the weather the way it is at the moment, either keep an eye on your emails or ring the club first thing in the morning to ensure the course is open.
