Club championships ready to roll
LAST Wednesday was the first day back on the green for the men without the ladies and the jackpot was won on the first day.
Graham Hein, Steve Tattam and John Fornasiero defeated Wally Gray, Keith Beetham and Barry Zillman 25-15, while Jim Cairns, Bruce Purdie and Nik Fernbach defeated Keith Dunn, Herb Secomb and Ken Ryder 27-20.
The men’s club championship sheets will available this week and all players must register their names for important upcoming events.
Business house bowls saw a small drop in numbers which made the competition difficult for organisers. If players are unable to attend on the night they must organise a replacement or contact Sandy on 0488 754 184.
Sunday social bowls saw some great play with Wally Gray, Jill Spencer and Kevin Jewell defeating Henny Tattam, Eric Bottle and Rick Williams 17–7, while Jenny Ryder (double lead), Garry North, Sandy Barrile and Mae Secomb defeated Jenny Ryder, Maureen Barnard, Herb Secomb and Margo Stanley 17–7, losing the game on a count back.
Laddie Purdie, Ken Ryder and Elaine Hadlow defeated Bruce Purdie, Alison Holmes and Steve Tattam 16-8.
This Sunday’s event is sponsored by Whitsunday Travel Service (Eric Bottle and Dale Hell) and there will be great prizes up for grabs.
The ladies opening day was held last Tuesday and was a great success with bowlers travelling from Wangaratta, Bowen, Collinsville and Mackay for the event.
Winners for the day were Nolene May, Merle Elphinstone and Maree Daffara on 14 points, while the runners up were Rhonda Lloyd, Margaret Heeney and Margo Stanley on 14 points.
Other results were Henny Tattam, Wendy Pomeroy and Alison Holmes on 13 points, Margaret Wilson, Fely Duncan and Regina Aquilina on 12 points and Irene Laird, Carol Meredith and Elaine Hadlow on 11 points.
All ladies club championship sheets are on the noticeboard and all interested players must register their names on the sheets.
The more competitors the better. The ladies monthly meeting will be held next Tuesday, March 11 at 10.30am.
Bowlers who come a little early will have a treat in store for them before the meeting.
The meeting will be used to discuss the club’s upcoming Presidents at Home Day, so it is important that all bowlers attend if possible.
ON THE KITTY: Ladda Purdie was in fine form while competing in a game of mixed triples at the Airlie Beach Bowls Club on Sunday afternoon.
