An application has been lodged to build a casino in Airlie Beach. What are your views?

Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY VIEWS -

Linda Davis, Cannonvale: I don't really care because developers will do what they want. I don't think the Whitsundays needs a casino and I wouldn't use it if it was built.

Lenny Dawson, Cannonvale: It sounds like a good idea to me having been to casinos on the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Tasmania. It is a draw card for visitors and we have the right environment for it.

David Burgess-Orton, Cannonvale: It will bring more business to the region but it depends where it is located. I want to know if the profits will benefit the community or just go back overseas.

Kevin Duffy, Woodwark: It's a great idea but I don't think it should be located in town. It would be more suited to Funnel Bay or Laguna Quays. Keep business on the mainland and create more jobs.

Dawn Spiertz, Jubilee Pocket: I think it will help with tourism, especially now we have direct flights to Sydney. It will be an attraction and anything that helps build up the community is a good thing.

Jeremy Warren, Airlie Beach: Yeah, I think it is a good idea. Locals are always looking for something new to do and it will be a good boost for tourism in the region.

Ann Kopitzke, Airlie Beach: I don't think the Whitsundays needs a casino because the region sells itself on it's natural beauty. That's why people travel here.
