Res­i­dents to host Reef Hour

THE re­cently formed Whit­sun­day Res­i­dents Against Dump­ing (WRAD) group, will be host­ing the next Reef Hour IV, on Thurs­day, March 20 from 5.30-6.30pm.

The event will be held at Cannonvale’s Vol­un­teer Ma­rine Res­cue (VMR) club on Alt­mann Av­enue.

The group has formed in re­sponse to re­cent de­ci­sions to per­mit the dump­ing of dredge spoil from the port of Ab­bot Point in­side the Great Bar­rier Reef ma­rine park.

The fo­cus for Reef Hour IV will be a ques­tion and an­swer ses­sion with a panel, con­sist­ing of lo­cal dive in­struc­tor Tony Fontes, lo­cal tourism op­er­a­tor Tony Brown, spokes­woman for the Ab­bot Point Ac­tion Group Maria Macdon­ald and Se­nior Re­searcher for the Mackay Con­ser­va­tion Group, Pa­tri­cia Julien.

This will be an open fo­rum where people are wel­come to come along and ask ques­tions, re­ceive an up­date, and round the evening off with live mu­sic from lo­cal mu­si­cians.
