Po­lice oper­a­tion pre­vents in­juries

PROSER­PINE Po­lice con­ducted Oper­a­tion Stringy­bark be­tween March 1-9, tar­get­ing road safety and the preven­tion of in­jury traf­fic crashes.

Of­fi­cer in Charge of the Proser­pine Sta­tion, Sergeant Nathan Blain, said the oper­a­tion was aimed at pre­vent­ing in­jury traf­fic crashes in the Proser­pine di­vi­sion through high vis­i­bil­ity road safety pa­trols.

Sgt Blain said the oper­a­tion was a suc­cess in that no traf­fic crashes were recorded dur­ing this pe­riod in the di­vi­sion.

“How­ever, po­lice did de- tect four drink driv­ers in ap­prox­i­mately 400 RBT’s con­ducted [and] is­sued 28 in­fringe­ment notices for speed­ing and four for dis­trac­tion-re­lated of­fences as well as one un­li­censed driver, who was also charged with drink-driv­ing and driv­ing an un­reg­is­tered ve­hi­cle,” he said.

Sgt Blain com­mended the ma­jor­ity of road users for do­ing the right thing and obey­ing the road rules.

He said this oper­a­tion would be fol­lowed up with Cen­tral Road Safety Week, to be con­ducted re­gion­wide from March 17-23.
