PROSERPINE Police conducted Operation Stringybark between March 1-9, targeting road safety and the prevention of injury traffic crashes.
Officer in Charge of the Proserpine Station, Sergeant Nathan Blain, said the operation was aimed at preventing injury traffic crashes in the Proserpine division through high visibility road safety patrols.
Sgt Blain said the operation was a success in that no traffic crashes were recorded during this period in the division.
“However, police did de- tect four drink drivers in approximately 400 RBT’s conducted [and] issued 28 infringement notices for speeding and four for distraction-related offences as well as one unlicensed driver, who was also charged with drink-driving and driving an unregistered vehicle,” he said.
Sgt Blain commended the majority of road users for doing the right thing and obeying the road rules.
He said this operation would be followed up with Central Road Safety Week, to be conducted regionwide from March 17-23.
