Chamber president resigns
LOCAL businesswoman Heidi Ward has resigned from her role as president of the Airlie Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Ms Ward handed in her resignation about three weeks ago and has been focusing on her own sushi and catering businesses.
“Basically although I really enjoyed it, the time and energy it took to accomplish some minor though important things led me to the decision it was maybe better to focus on my own business,” she said.
“Things that were important to me, such as small initiatives to ensure the tourists had a fantastic holiday and wanted to return, often seemed to be overlooked or pushed into the background by other organisations.
“Being a long-term local it’s very important to understand the tapestry of people in the region and how the community works, hence many of the decisions being made in the community at present are very difficult for me to accept.”
The Chamber’s management committee said they would like to thank Ms Ward for the energy she brought to the Chamber and they acknowledged her contributions as president, “including but not limited to her incredible efforts in establishing the school holiday activity programs, devising the initial strategy for the Change for Change program and never giving up on 2013 Christmas lights for the main street of Airlie”.
“Given that Chamber was only formed in 2013 and has limited funds, it should be noted that without Heidi’s persistence and passion, many of the initiatives deli- vered in the first few months since Chambers inception, may not have been possible,” secretary Naomi Clark said.
“Heidi’s passion for the Whitsunday region and Airlie Beach is unquestionable and the committee wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
Chamber vice president Philip Larsson has taken over as interim president and at a members meeting on Tuesday night, the call-out was made for two additional committee members.
