Whitehaven continues to impress
WHITEHAVEN Beach has taken out the top spot for best beach in the South Pacific in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for Beaches.
The beach on Whitsunday Island, famous for its white, silica sand, impressed international travellers so much that it was also ranked fifth in the world.
Now in their second year, the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for Beaches recognise more than 322 beaches globally, including the top lists for Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, South America, and the U.S.
In the global stakes, Whitehaven was beaten to the top spot by Baia do Sancho in Brazil, followed by Grace Bay in the Turks and Caicos, Flamenco Beach in Puerto Rico and Rabbit Beach in Italy, which came second, third and fourth respectively. In the South Pacific, Whitehaven reigned supreme, beating Exmouth’s Turquoise Bay, Broome’s Cable Beach and New Zealand’s Maunganui Beach to the number one spot. It was also number one in the top ten beaches of Australia list.
Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited chief executive officer Danial Rochford said he was very excited that Whitehaven Beach had taken out these top awards and was recognised as one of the best beaches in the world.
“I would like to thank all TripAdvisor users who have reviewed and rated Whitehaven Beach and our local tourism industry for allowing travellers to experience the beauty and magic of Whitsundays whilst preserving this natural wonder at the same time,” he said.
