Whitsundays supports World’s Greatest Shave
MANY brave local residents faced the clippers over the weekend in support of the Leukaemia Foundation World’s Greatest Shave.
There were public shaves and funky hair events held right across the region with events at the Reef Gateway Hotel, Jubilee Tavern, Centro Whitsunday, Metropole Hotel and Dee Jay’s School of Dance.
It is expected the final total of funds raised by the Reef Gateway Hotel to be more than $5000 with local resident Pauline Redpath alone raising more than $3100.
Centro Whitsunday held a World’s Greatest Shave event on Sunday and invited members of the public to come forward and shave or colour their hair to raise funds for the foundation.
Ellie Harper pre-registered to shave her hair in front of supportive onlookers at noon.
She couldn’t wipe the smile off her face and laughed about the strange feeling of a beanie on her head.
Centro staff were pleased to have collectively raised more than $1000.
Mother and daughter team of Denise and Dakota Hadley raised more than $2500 at their sausage sizzle and kids disco for the Leukaemia Foundation on Saturday night.
The Metropole Hotel had five brave residents shave their head with others opting for a funky colour on Saturday, with the final funds raised estimated at more than $4000.
Staff on Hayman Island also held a fundraising event on Saturday night, with about 60 staff and contractors raising more than $1900 for the kitty.
One brave girl Kacila Hall surprised the crowd by declaring she would shave her beautiful locks off if $1000 was raised.
This promoted the crowd into a frenzy to raise the money and within 20 minutes her goal was achieved.
Ms Hall’s head was shaved in front of a very supportive audience.
Donations can still be made to the foundation at www.worldsgreatestshave.com.
