Sporting car club mixed title event this weekend
THE Whitsunday Sporting Car Club will be holding the first round of the Mixed Title Khanacross Championship at the Whitsunday and Tonker Park Raceway this weekend.
On Saturday, drivers will put their skills to the test on the tarmac track of the Whitsunday Raceway before taking on the dirt track on Sunday.
Gates open at 7am and spectators are welcome to attend to support local drivers as they battle it out across both racing formats.
The club recently announced a sponsorship agreement with CQ Field Mining Services and partner business Hendry’s Automotive Excellence.
CQ Field Mining Services director Jason Holt said the sponsorship would be used to improve the quality of driver training and the club’s motor sport track.
“The Whitsunday Sporting Car Club is the fastest growing motor sport facility outside of south-east Queensland, attracting drivers from throughout the central and north Queensland area,” he said.
“Major title events are held here annually and CQ Field Mining Services are proud to be supporting that growth as the naming rights sponsor of the club’s track at Tonker Park.”
The Whitsunday Sporting Car Club facilities allow the club to run a range of events including safe driver training for vehicles from high performance to basic old cars and professional rally cars.
He said the Khanacross format of events promoted a safe, competitive motor sport environment for drivers aged from 12 and up.
Whitsunday Sporting Car Club president Warren Morton said the sponsorship caped off a great start to the year as many club members were highly awarded at the recent Queensland rally titles 2013 awards night.
The Whitsunday Sporting Car Club operates out of the large dirt surfaced circuit track located off Lascelles Road, Proserpine between the Whitsunday Dirt Riders Club and the Whitsunday Motor Sport Club’s kart circuit.
NEW SPONSOR: Warren Hendry from CQ Field Mining Services and Whitsunday Sporting Car Club treasurer Mike Browne are looking forward to developing the facilities of the Tonker Park Raceway.
