Golfers in form for single stableford
A GOOD field of 26 Whitsunday golfers played a single stableford competition last Sunday on a magnificent course in perfect conditions.
Temperatures climbed during the morning to result in a very warm day without any breeze offering warmer and dryer playing conditions.
The green course meant very little run on the fairways and tricky greens proved hard to read.
Anna Winterbourn and Mark Winter played outstanding games and players adjourned to the Reef Gateway for the presentation with many changing garb to green to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
In A grade, the winner of the day was Ron Jamieson on 35 points, ahead of runner-up Kym Hill on 33 points.
The best gross score went to Scotty Wardroper and Kym Hill came home with the longest drive.
Mark Winter, who also scored the longest drive, was the B grade winner on 37 points, closely followed by runner-up Reg Kercher on 35 points and Mick Caton scored the best gross score.
In C grade, Wilf Herweg was the winner on 29 points, three ahead of runner-up Ian Giles on 26.
Anna Winterbourn took out the ladies competition on 37 points, with Linda Wardroper finishing as the runner-up on 35.
The best gross score went to Tiina Randmae and Anna Winterbourn also scored the longest drive on the day.
Nearest-the-pins in A and B grade was Wayne Temby with his first shot on 13 and Geoff Harrison with his first shot on 16. In C grade, Wilf Herweg was nearest-the-pins with his second shot on 2 and in the ladies, Linda Wardroper with her second shot on 2 and Tiina Randmae with her first shot on 13.
Next Sunday will be a two-ball ambrose competition with tee off at 7.30am.
The competition and presentation will be followed by a general meeting.
