PLAYERS of the Whitsunday Football Club’s premier men’s squad were back in action for the third round of the men’s Football Queensland Cup in Mackay on Friday night.

The team was coming off the back of an impressive 10-1 win over West United in the second round but were unable to come away with the win, going down to the Magpies 6-3.

This result in the third round means the premier men’s team is now out of contention in the FQ Cup.

The WFC will officially kick off their 2014 season this Saturday, March 22, with their first home game to be played at the Bowen Sporting Grounds.

The club’s home ground is the Whitsunday Sports Park but as the team has several players who live in Bowen, the club took the opportunity to play at the high quality fields.

In other news, the club will be holding a season launch at the Sidewalk Cafe in Airlie Beach tonight (Thursday, March 20) from 6.30pm. At the launch club president Steve Tween will advise what the upcoming season has in store and the captains and vice captains will be announced for the four senior WFC teams.

The club has nominated teams in the premier men, premier women, reserves men and division two men to compete in the Mackay Regional Football Zone competition.

For more infromation, WFC club manager Annette Tween on 0409 963 220.

SEASON STARTS: Whitsunday Football Club premier men's player Anthony Nobilia is looking forward to his team's first home game clash in Bowen this weekend.
