Brah­mans geared up af­ter 2014 launch

MORE than 90 people at­tended the Proser­pine Whit­sun­day Brah­mans sea­son launch at the Metropole Ho­tel on Fri­day night.

The launch was held to an­nounce the club’s new spon­sors and re­lease the new team jer­seys for their 2014 sea­son.

MC Benn Ryan also put the team’s coaches un­der the spot­light in an open in­ter­view to en­ter­tain the crowd and high­light the 2014 sea­son.

For­mer Welsh in­ter­na­tional Anthony Black­wood will lead A grade in their pre­mier­ship pur­suit, while Hugh Mid­dle­ton will take on the role of re­serves coach and for­mer Brah­man Billy Boyd and English­man Cal­lum Wilkin­son will co-coach the un­der-18s squad.

The Brah­mans have wel­comed many new faces to their ranks this year in­clud­ing New Zealand’s Tuki Jack­son and Ivan Phenehe, Bruce La­guna, Jack Briskow, Phil Ram- age, Ethan Gal­lop and Sam Condlin.

The Brah­mans will be tak­ing to the field for the first round of the Mackay District Rugby League com­pe­ti­tion in Mackay this Satur­day.

All grades will be in ac­tion against the Souths Sharks with A grade be­ing the cur­tain raiser match for the Mackay Cut­ters as they take on Wyn­num Manly Seag­ulls in the Queens­land Cup.

A grade man­ager Bryce Fraser said the boys were well pre­pared and had played ex­cel­lent de­fen­sive games against the Mag­pies in their re­cent pre-sea­son trial match.

Fraser said he had con­fi­dence in the boys and was feel­ing they could come away with the win in the sea­son opener.

The Brah­mans first home game of the sea­son will be held at Les Stagg Oval next Satur­day, March 29 where all grades will face off against Norths Devils.
