Whitsunday Times - - FRONT PAGE -

THE possibilities for Chinese investment in the Whitsundays is continuing to move forward.

China Australia Entrepreneurs Association Inc (CAEAI ) president Raymond Wang remains confident in his recent $5billion Airlie Beach casino bid and has now taken steps to identify other business opportunities in the region.

On Tuesday, Mr Wang’s association and representatives from Whitsunday Regional Council welcomed a Chinese delegation from Yinchuan who will spend the next couple of days exploring opportunities for agriculture export, construction and property development.

Council’s CEO Scott Waters said that last year, Council’s mayoral delegation visited the city of Yinchuan in the Ning Xia province as part of its trade mission to China.

“The delegations’ visit to the Whitsunday region this week is a direct result of the relationships Council built during last year’s trip to China,” he said.

“The Council in-conjunction with the CAEAI is very pleased to be able to return their hospitality and help demonstrate to this initial Yinchuan delegation what the entire region has to offer.”

Over the next two days, the delegation’s eight members will be meeting with tourism operators and agricultural enterprises to discuss potential investments and review the export of local produce to China.

Further delegations including representatives from the municipal government of Yinchuan and a mayoral delegation from Yongning County, are expected to visit the region in the coming months.

Mr Waters said this was an exciting time for the Whitsunday region which was currently experiencing a high level of interest from investors both locally and internationally. And for any detractors, he had this to say. “I think those that aren’t supportive of further growth and development should look at some of the plans that have been put forward and how the delegations that we’ve received have been very mindful of delivering for the community.

“As a Council we are a conduit for the community and we will be able to help guide and provide the very best possible results.”
