Sailors set off in pur­suit of cup

THE first race of the Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club’s Chal­lenger’s Cup se­ries was sailed on Sun­day with 45 com­peti­tors tak­ing part.

Quick­skips, skip­pered by Peter Mil­lar, was the first mul­ti­hull around the course closely chased by Sirocco, with Mar­cus Arthur at the helm. On cor­rected time, Quick

skips was the win­ner by a few min­utes.

Trea­sure VIII, skip­pered by Clay Bau­man, sailed to the front of Di­vi­sion 2 but failed to com­plete the course af­ter an er­ror made by crew mem­bers.

It was Twis­ter, helmed by Kevin Fog­a­rty, who fin­ished the race first, fol­lowed by Cross­bow (David Lund) and

Wob­bly Boot (Craig Pic­cinelli). On cor­rected time, Wob­bly

Boot took the win from Twis­ter and Cross­bow, with the of­fi­cial mar­gin of just one mi- nute and five sec­onds be­tween them. Anthea (Dewi Hughes) and

Lorna Rose Too (Peter Mitchel­son), fought a good bat­tle on the course, in­clud­ing a close col­li­sion at the top mark.

It was Lorna Rose Too who crossed the line first, just three min­utes in front, but An

thea won on cor­rected time af­ter sail­ing a great race.
