Sailors set off in pursuit of cup
THE first race of the Whitsunday Sailing Club’s Challenger’s Cup series was sailed on Sunday with 45 competitors taking part.
Quickskips, skippered by Peter Millar, was the first multihull around the course closely chased by Sirocco, with Marcus Arthur at the helm. On corrected time, Quick
skips was the winner by a few minutes.
Treasure VIII, skippered by Clay Bauman, sailed to the front of Division 2 but failed to complete the course after an error made by crew members.
It was Twister, helmed by Kevin Fogarty, who finished the race first, followed by Crossbow (David Lund) and
Wobbly Boot (Craig Piccinelli). On corrected time, Wobbly
Boot took the win from Twister and Crossbow, with the official margin of just one mi- nute and five seconds between them. Anthea (Dewi Hughes) and
Lorna Rose Too (Peter Mitchelson), fought a good battle on the course, including a close collision at the top mark.
It was Lorna Rose Too who crossed the line first, just three minutes in front, but An
thea won on corrected time after sailing a great race.
