Competitors tie at twilight race

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

MERE minutes and in some cases seconds, separated the competitors in last week’s Whitsunday Sailing Club twilight race, with a tie for third place in Division 2

Windy conditions prevailed over the race, with 15-20 knots from the southeast, as well as some heavy gusts.

In Division 1, Quickskips, skippered by Peter Millar, enjoyed a very good start and managed to lead the division all the way to the finish.

Wild Thing (Keith Roberts), started slowly but chased his rival closely to finish just eight seconds behind.

Queensland Marine Services (John Galloway), won the start in Division 2, but it wasn’t long before Tulip (Bernie van’t Hof) and Reignition (Charles Wallis), moved to the front of the fleet.

After three laps, Wobbly Boot (Craig Piccinelli), had sailed the best race to win on corrected time, ahead of Tulip.

Third place was a tie on corrected time between Sandpiper (Chris Chengody) and Twister (Kevin Fogarty), who both finished just 19 seconds behind Tulip and one second ahead of Queensland Marine Services.

Masquerade (Tom Vujasinovich), was the best starter in Division 3, but he was soon overtaken by Syncronicity (Tom Parker) and Lorna Rose Too (Peter Mitchelson).

Syncronicity finished 10 seconds ahead of Lorna Rose Too to take line honours and handicap, with Anthea (Dewi Hughes), taking third place on corrected time.

The difference between Anthea in third and Masquerade in fourth place was just one minute and 40 seconds.
