Close scores in weekly bowls competition
NINE ladies and one man took to the green for the ladies day bowls event, with members playing one game of pairs and one of triples.
The pair’s game resulted in Jill Spence and Rick Williams defeating Elaine Hadlow and Margo Stanley in a well balanced game which saw the score settle at 17-16.
A close game was also held in the triples match with Rhonda Lloyd, Diane Dobbins and Doreen Whitehouse defeating the team of Tess Walker, Ladda Purdie and Noela Whitehead by five points with a final score of 26.
The men’s day bowls event on Wednesday was dry with only a threat of rain.
Fortunately the weather held off seeing a game of pairs and triples go ahead.
Winners of the pairs were Barry Zillman and Bruce Purdie who defeated the team of Keith Dunn and Nik Fernbach by 10 points with their final score of 25.
The triples game resulted in a draw with Jim Cairns, Steve Tattam and Kevin Jewell finishing on an equal score of 22 with Wally Gray, Jeff Newman and Rick Williams.
The Wednesday jackpot was not claimed.
Wednesday night business house bowls was a success but the eight teams struggled for points in the second last night of competition for series 11.
Charter Yacht Australia and Porters Pounders held on to their positions of equal lead but Whitsunday Transit and Woolworths are now snapping at their heels with their scores of equal second.
The Mighties (Mitre 10), Intuitive Massage, Bendigo Community Bank and Marine Provisioning are not far behind and still in contention for the shield.
Next week will be the decider with the following week set to be a fun-filled presentation night where the winner will step up to claim the shield.
Bare foot bowls on Friday night had to be cancelled due to the wet weather but Sunday was fine for the weekly mixed bowls.
A total of 14 bowlers played two games of pairs and a game of triples.
Winners of one game of pairs were Bruce Purdie and Herb Secomb who defeated Maureen Bernard and Gary North 15-9, while Wally Gray and Noela Whitehead edged out Richard Whitehouse and Betty Nicolle.
The triples game was won by Ladda Purdie, Margaret Douglas and David Dias with a score of 15, beating Doreen Whitehouse, Louise Mahony and Steve Tattam’s score of nine.
