Netballers in action for carnival this weekend

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

THE Whitsunday Netball Association will be hosting a mixed Netball carnival at the Whitsunday Sports Park this Saturday from 11am-4pm.

The carnival is open to all mixed teams and registration costs $100 per team with a minimum of seven players.

No previous netball experience is necessary but all participants must wear enclosed shoes, appropriate sporting attire and be aged 15-years and over to play.

The Whitsunday Netball Association held a senior signup and registration night for their weekly social netball competition on Wednesday night.

The community based competition is open to both men and women and will be held every Wednesday at the Whitsunday Sports Park netball courts.

Whitsunday Netball Association media representative Bec Thomsen said weekly social netball would only go ahead if interest was there.

“Be proactive and get a team together for the carnival this weekend because the only way weekly social netball will go ahead is if we have enough teams to support a local competition,” she said. “There is no age limit so parents can enjoy a game with their children who are over the age of 15. It’s a great opportunity to get active.”

A barbeque lunch will be available on the day.

The next general meeting will be on Tuesday, April 1 at the Whitsunday Sea Eagles clubhouse from 6pm. The meeting will be open to all players and team affiliates.

Those who are interested in joining but missed the opportunity at yesterday’s sign-on are encouraged to attend the general meeting to register.

The season will commence on Wednesday, April 23 and all match enquiries are to be made to the team captains.
