Weather a challenge for bowlers
SAUTRDAY’S competition games were washed out with Friday’s rain and will be rescheduled at a later date.
On Sunday, 18 players enjoyed an afternoon of mixed social bowls with Carlie Albertson, Lois Read and Kevin Thorogood defeating Jeanette Calway, John Henderson and Heather Brown 19-18.
Reg Russell, Dot Hinschen and Gail Camm drew 13 all with Patrick Camm, Nick Watson and Matthew Camm while Fran Porter, Flo O’Hanlon and Philip Brown defeated Arthur Williams, Lill Burke and Rob Taylor 29-9.
Kevin Thorogood’s team were the winners of the Sunday trophy as they had the closest scoring game.
On Saturday in the open triples, Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamilton and Graheme Kinnear will go up against Arthur Williams, Phil Brown and Gavin Milne with a start time of 9am.
In the A singles, Wayne Handley will play Barry Saroglia with marker Kevin Thorogood while Jonathan Bye will play Ben Cutrone with marker Shane Spann.
In the B singles, Ted Cullen will take on Dale Haack with marker Jim Quod and Todd Leys will play Matthew Camm with marker Shane Kinnear.
All members are required at the club for the pennant trials to find out who is available to play from midday on Saturday.
Two trial games will be held in the afternoon starting at 12.30pm.
Both semi finals of the club championship fours were played on Wednesday.
There were some great bowls played in both morning and afternoon games.
The wind was very challenging for all bowlers who took it all in their stride.
In the morning game Janet Mortimer, Fran Porter, June Blair and Heather Brown defeated Heather Patullo, Joyce Patullo, Maree Daffara and Gail Camm 20-10.
In the afternoon game, Lois Read, Barbara Dammash (subbing for Jo Peasley), Flo O’Hanlon and Joan McGrath defeated Dell McCormack, Noelie Dibben, Lillian Harris and Joy Jeffries 25-12.
The final is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, March 26 at 1.15pm between Heather Brown’s team and Joan McGrath’s team.
In social play, Trudy Hanne, Janet Mortimer and Arthur Williams defeated Norma Daniels, Fran Porter and Maree Daffara 35-8, while Barbara Drinkwater, John Lahney and Heather Brown defeated Pauline Spruce, Dot Hinschen and June Blair 23-17.
Club championship pairs will be played on Wednesday, April 2 with a 1.15pm start.
In the championship pairs, Joy Jeffries and Joyce Patullo will face off against Janet Mortimer and Lois Read, while June Blair and Heather Brown will play Flo O’Hanlon and Heather Patullo.
In the following week club championship pairs will be played on Wednesday, April 9 with Jo Peasley and Joan McGrath playing against Carlie Albertson and Maree Daffara, while club championship singles will see Amy Hart take on Lois Read, while Janet Mortimer will roll up against Joy Jeffries. Markers will be advised at a later date. Thanks must go to all the ladies who came along on Friday to help with the kitchen working bee.
The Proserpine Ladies Triples Carnival is fast approaching and five Proserpine teams will be sharing the greens with teams from Airlie Beach, St Helen’s, Northern Beaches, Sarina, Marian, Pioneer Valley and Wangaratta.
Thanks to everyone who is contributing to make the day a success through greens preparation, sponsorship of the event, donations of raffle prizes, cent sale prizes, preparing afternoon tea and the general tidy up of the club area.
The club also wishes Joy Jeffries’ team luck when they play in St Helen’s Past President’s Carnival on Tuesday, April 2.
