Weather a chal­lenge for bowlers

SAUTR­DAY’S com­pe­ti­tion games were washed out with Fri­day’s rain and will be resched­uled at a later date.

On Sun­day, 18 play­ers en­joyed an af­ter­noon of mixed so­cial bowls with Car­lie Al­bert­son, Lois Read and Kevin Thoro­good de­feat­ing Jeanette Cal­way, John Hen­der­son and Heather Brown 19-18.

Reg Rus­sell, Dot Hin­schen and Gail Camm drew 13 all with Patrick Camm, Nick Wat­son and Matthew Camm while Fran Porter, Flo O’Hanlon and Philip Brown de­feated Arthur Wil­liams, Lill Burke and Rob Tay­lor 29-9.

Kevin Thoro­good’s team were the win­ners of the Sun­day tro­phy as they had the clos­est scor­ing game.

On Satur­day in the open triples, Nathan Dodds, Scott Hamil­ton and Gra­heme Kin­n­ear will go up against Arthur Wil­liams, Phil Brown and Gavin Milne with a start time of 9am.

In the A sin­gles, Wayne Han­d­ley will play Barry Saroglia with marker Kevin Thoro­good while Jonathan Bye will play Ben Cutrone with marker Shane Spann.

In the B sin­gles, Ted Cullen will take on Dale Haack with marker Jim Quod and Todd Leys will play Matthew Camm with marker Shane Kin­n­ear.

All mem­bers are re­quired at the club for the pen­nant tri­als to find out who is avail­able to play from mid­day on Satur­day.

Two trial games will be held in the af­ter­noon start­ing at 12.30pm.


Both semi fi­nals of the club cham­pi­onship fours were played on Wed­nes­day.

There were some great bowls played in both morn­ing and af­ter­noon games.

The wind was very chal­leng­ing for all bowlers who took it all in their stride.

In the morn­ing game Janet Mor­timer, Fran Porter, June Blair and Heather Brown de­feated Heather Pat­ullo, Joyce Pat­ullo, Ma­ree Daf­fara and Gail Camm 20-10.

In the af­ter­noon game, Lois Read, Bar­bara Dam­mash (sub­bing for Jo Peasley), Flo O’Hanlon and Joan McGrath de­feated Dell McCormack, Noelie Dibben, Lil­lian Har­ris and Joy Jef­fries 25-12.

The fi­nal is sched­uled to be played on Wed­nes­day, March 26 at 1.15pm be­tween Heather Brown’s team and Joan McGrath’s team.

In so­cial play, Trudy Hanne, Janet Mor­timer and Arthur Wil­liams de­feated Norma Daniels, Fran Porter and Ma­ree Daf­fara 35-8, while Bar­bara Drinkwa­ter, John Lah­ney and Heather Brown de­feated Pauline Spruce, Dot Hin­schen and June Blair 23-17.

Club cham­pi­onship pairs will be played on Wed­nes­day, April 2 with a 1.15pm start.

In the cham­pi­onship pairs, Joy Jef­fries and Joyce Pat­ullo will face off against Janet Mor­timer and Lois Read, while June Blair and Heather Brown will play Flo O’Hanlon and Heather Pat­ullo.

In the fol­low­ing week club cham­pi­onship pairs will be played on Wed­nes­day, April 9 with Jo Peasley and Joan McGrath play­ing against Car­lie Al­bert­son and Ma­ree Daf­fara, while club cham­pi­onship sin­gles will see Amy Hart take on Lois Read, while Janet Mor­timer will roll up against Joy Jef­fries. Mark­ers will be ad­vised at a later date. Thanks must go to all the ladies who came along on Fri­day to help with the kitchen work­ing bee.

The Proser­pine Ladies Triples Car­ni­val is fast ap­proach­ing and five Proser­pine teams will be shar­ing the greens with teams from Air­lie Beach, St He­len’s, North­ern Beaches, Sa­rina, Mar­ian, Pioneer Val­ley and Wan­garatta.

Thanks to ev­ery­one who is con­tribut­ing to make the day a suc­cess through greens prepa­ra­tion, spon­sor­ship of the event, do­na­tions of raf­fle prizes, cent sale prizes, pre­par­ing af­ter­noon tea and the gen­eral tidy up of the club area.

The club also wishes Joy Jef­fries’ team luck when they play in St He­len’s Past Pres­i­dent’s Car­ni­val on Tues­day, April 2.
