By-election announced for Division 2

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS – WHITSUNDAY REGIONAL COUNCIL CHAOS -

THERE will be a by-election for Whitsunday Regional Council’s Division 2 on Saturday, May 3.

That is four weeks from this Saturday.

The by-election has been called to replace former Division 2 councillor Kevin Collins who resigned last month citing “integrity issues”.

Voting is compulsory for those people enrolled in Division 2 which includes Cannonvale and the surrounding area.

The electoral rolls will close at 5pm tomorrow, Friday April 4.

Anyone wishing to nominate to be a candidate must lodge their nomination forms by noon next Thursday, April 10. Four people have already announced their intention to nominate.

They are former mayor of the Whitsunday Shire Council Mario Demartini, former Deputy Mayor of Whitsunday Regional Council Rogin Taylor, former Division 2 candidate Andrew Finlay and Preston resident John Atkinson.

Local Government Minister David Crisafulli has urged residents to think very carefully about who they voted in.

“Don’t elect another actor in the soap opera Days of Our Lives,” he said.

Pre-poll voting will open on Monday, April 21 and close at 6pm on Friday, May 2.
