Council celebrates National Youth Week
WHITSUNDAY Regional Council Mayor Jenny Whitney said National Youth Week (NYW) was the largest celebration of young people in Australia.
“Thousands of young people aged 12-25 from across Australia get involved in NYW each year, which runs from April 4-13,” she said.
“The theme for National Youth Week 2014 is ‘Our Voice. Our Impact.’ It was chosen by the young members of the National Planning Group following broad consultation with young people from across Australia.
“There are lots of action packed free activities for youth in the whole Whitsunday area hosted by the Whitsunday and Bowen PCYC’s, Proserpine Youthspace and Collinsville Youth Coalition.
“Locally, the week will also feature dance parties including the new idance system, laser skirmish, tie dying, games tournaments, excursions to the fire station and a community event in Proserpine ‘Connect 2014’ brought to you by Councils Youth Committee Y Factor.
The Connect 2014 is a free community event in Proserpine during National Youth Week. It will be held on Wednesday, April 9 from 10am-4pm at the Uniting Church Hall, Proserpine.
The positive mental health mini expo is open to everyone in the community and will provide information on local support services, volunteer organizations and recreational opportunities to support good mental health.
There will be entertainment, music, kids games, a sausage sizzle courtesy of Proserpine Lions and a Zumba Fitness display.
