Race series set to start
THIS Saturday marks the start of the Whitsunday Sailing Club’s Whitsunday Ocean Services short offshore series, which will kick off at 11am.
The series features the local islands as rounding marks, to highlight the beauty of the Whitsunday waters.
Crews will enjoy competing on courses similar to those in this year’s Vision Surveys Airlie Beach Race Week from August 8-15.
The fleet is expected to comprise multihulls, trailer sailors and racing and cruising yachts.
All finishing times will be adjusted by a performance-based handicapping system bring- ing the wide array of different boats onto a level playing field.
Prizes will be presented for this first race in the series at the sailing club later on Saturday afternoon.
With the course to be picked to suit the conditions on the day, club officials are encouraging all skippers to refer to their newly-released 2014 Sailing Guide, available at the club.
Local sailors interested in racing or volunteering on a safety boat are asked to contact the club via www.whitsundaysailingclub.com.au.
