Tough con­di­tions for vet­eran golfers

MORE than 20 vet­eran golfers re­turned to the Proser­pine Golf Course for their weekly club com­pe­ti­tion on Tues­day.

This was the first com­pe­ti­tion in re­cent weeks af­ter the course was closed due to the wet weather and many golfers strug­gled against the long grass on the fair­way and wind in the af­ter­noon which was re­flected in the scores.

In the 18-hole com­pe­ti­tion, Bill Woods was the win­ner on 37, with Clive Hughes com­ing in as the run­ner-up on 36.

The ball run­down was made up of Dave Mor­ris on 35, Jim Dowell on 33, Bill Jesser on 31 and Harry Gel­latly on 30.

Near­est-the-pins were Vic Feld­man and Mandy Pat­ter­son.

Harry Gel­latly was the win­ner of the 9-hole com­pe­ti­tion with a score of 20 points, with Bill Woods com­ing in as the run­ner-up on 19.

In the ball run­down was Clive Hughes and Dave Mor­ris on 18, Barry Con­nell on 17, with Andrew Mackay and Jim Dowell on count back for 15.

Near­est-the-pins were Mick Bur­rows and Mandy Pat­ter­son.

The Proser­pine vet­eran golfers will be host­ing an or­di­nary club com­pe­ti­tion next week, be­fore play­ers travel to Collinsville on April 15.
