15 epic bouts planned for fight night
TICKETS are on sale now for the third instalment of the Airlie Fight Night at the Whitsunday PCYC on May 24.
There are currently 15 bouts of both Mixed Martial Arts ( MMA) and boxing planned for the elevated boxing ring which will showcase the region’s best local fighters as they face off against fierce competitors from throughout the state.
Whitsunday Martial Arts (WMA) coach Dan Zealand will be stepping in the ring for a huge bout of MMA and organisers are keeping tight lipped about who will participate in the other main event.
Many of the region’s local favourites will be returning to the spotlight including crowd-pleaser Remi Vigor, Blair Frew, Matt Thurtell, Sean Kolders and Dan McCormack.
Heavyweight Shane Vorstman will once again be the man to watch after knocking out his competitor in the first 20 seconds of the first round of his MMA bout at the Airlie Fight Night held in November last year.
Local legend Adam Mitton has also confirmed he will be fighting on the night and organisers are currently searching for a Muay Thai match-up.
Zealand said 11 out of the 15 bouts had been matched with fighters from Brisbane to Cairns.
“The guys who are backing it up for their second or third fight know the process and are already shaping up to be strong contenders on the night,” he said.
“The 12-week challenge guys are getting thrown deeper and deeper into the experience and everyone is right on weight so it’s going to be an action-packed event.”
Many fighters are thriving under the coaching of current Nitro Welterweight Title holder and WMA owner Anton Zafir who demands nothing but perfection.
Five of the 18 VIP tables (seating 10 people per table) have already been sold and Airlie Fight Night organiser Luke Anderson is urging locals to contact him to secure their tickets on 0404 386 744.
VIP tables include complementary refreshments and a four-course meal.
General admission tickets are available from LA Iconic, Whitsunday PCYC, Whitsunday Martial Arts and Scissor Sisters or online via www.moshtix.com.au.
