Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

POLICE have charged a 50-year-old Airlie Beach man following an alleged knife attack in Airlie Beach on Sunday about 4am.

Officers were called to the corner of Waterson Way and Begley Street where the man had allegedly been threatening some women with a knife when a 22-yearold man spoke up to defend them.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the 50-year-old then allegedly cut the man on the chest and slashed the wrist of another man, aged 28.

Officer in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Teys said several people witnessed the incident and the man was charged with a number of offences including going armed so as to cause fear, common assault and wounding.

The man will face the Proserpine Magistrate's Court on April 28.
