Public warned about builder

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

THE Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC) has issued a public warning about Steve Preston who they allege has been carrying out unlawful building work in the Proserpine area.

QBCC Commissioner, Steve Griffin, has urged consumers, contractors and suppliers to be cautious in their dealings with Mr Preston.

“He does not hold QBCC licences and is therefore not able to carry out, or enter into contracts to carry out, building work, including restumping and associated works, carpentry and re-roofing,” Mr Griffin said.

The QBCC is warning anyone dealing with Mr Preston to exercise extreme caution and seek legal ad- vice before entering into contracts or making any payments, to protect their interests.

The QBCC is also warning that the Queensland Home Warranty Insurance Scheme may not be available to consumers if they engage unlicensed contractors.

All homeowners are urged to conduct research before engaging contractors, and the QBCC recommends engaging a licensed contractor even for small jobs.

Anyone in doubt about whether the entity they are contracting with is licensed or holds the correct licence to do the work, can conduct an online licence search at or contact the QBCC on 1300 272 272.
