Residents warned to lock cars

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

OFFICER in Charge of the Whitsunday Police Station, Acting Senior Sergeant Brad Teys, is warning local residents to lock up their cars.

The warning comes after a number of thefts from vehicles in recent weeks.

Some time after 5.30am on April 1, there was an attempted theft of a motorcycle from the car park at Shute Harbour.

Act Snr Sgt Teys said an unknown person or people tried to force the ignition on the motorcycle. He said a 2005 white Holden Commodore was seen in the area at the time and police were making enquiries about that.

Between 9pm on April 3 and 7am on April 4 a soft-top Jeep Wrangler was broken into on Shute Harbour Road at Cannonvale. Property belonging to the Jeep’s 23-year-old owner was stolen.

“There’s been a few steal from vehicle offences so we would ask people to be vigilant in locking or securing their vehicles and also securing all valuables,” Act Snr Sgt Teys said.
