New medical tourism service available to locals
“MANY people are now taking up the option of undergoing elective surgery by qualified practitioners overseas to cut waiting periods and save money.”
These are the words Whitsunday Health Clinic owner Rowena Kissun who now offers a medical tourism service from her clinic in Cannonvale.
Ms Kissun completed eight years of university study in Sydney to become a qualified medical scientist and naturopath.
She then studied abroad in India for a further two years to gain her qualifications as a homeopathic doctor.
Every two months, she travels to Thailand to work in internationally accredited hospitals and has now combined medical tourism into the repertoire of services available at the clinic.
She said the medical tourism service provided local residents with an opportunity to go on guided surgical and dental tours in Bangkok to have high quality work completed at a fraction of the price people paid in Australia.
“People have started tra- velling overseas for surgical and dental work simply because of the price,” she said.
“I offer a safe way for people to travel with me and experience the five star hospitality and service that hospitals I am affiliated with, provide to my clients.”
As part of the service, Ms Kissun will personally escort clients to Thailand for elective surgery including dental, ophthalmology and cosmetic surgery.
She said while some local practitioners may offer negative opinions of having sur- gery overseas, there were many major benefits.
“All procedures are conducted by fully qualified practitioners at internationally accredited hospitals with no waiting periods and for a fraction of the price you would pay in Australia,” she said.
“We do all the hard work, from booking the flights and accommodation, to taking you to and from your appointment.”
