Schools of tuna among the islands
THERE is still lots of bait fish about, and lots of longtail schools have been sighted around the islands and in the passages.
To catch the tuna, try casting small 30gram slugs and plugs at the edge of the schools and retrieve quickly.
School holidays are here and there are a lot of fish to be caught off the shoreline, including whiting and flathead. These can be caught off most beaches, which are accessible to everyone. There are also a lot of small cobia being caught along the shoreline, off both the beaches and the rockwalls.

The bite at the dam should start to improve as the full moon approaches.
The odd barra is being caught trolling the basin, however most fish seem to be around the timber in the river courses and at the shallow points and bays on the north eastern side of the dam.
Conditions should be good this weekend, if the low pressure system doesn’t come too far south.
If you plan to fish the river this weekend, target the slack tides as the tides start to get bigger closer to the full moon.
Lots of tide is good for crabbing and there seems to be plenty getting around at the moment.

The neap tides at the reef over the last week provided good conditions for bottom fishing, with plenty of trout, red throat and some nice nannygai taken in the deep water.
The weather conditions have not been ideal but hopefully this coming weekend will see it improve.
There are still some mackerel around, and the lead up to the full moon on April 15 should see them feeding well.
