Riders invited to try mountain biking
RIDERS from the Whitsunday Mountain Bike Club (WMTBC) launched themselves and their bikes, into the racing season over the weekend in Townsville.
Four WMTBC riders pulled on the full-face helmets and pointed their bikes downhill as they took on the challenging course at Mount Stuart on Saturday.
Downhill was a new discipline for the Whitsunday riders and it proved to be a chal- lenging course. Ben Roe and Mick Sorley proved they had enough gas in the tank and came out on the podium taking second and third place respectively.
Sunday morning saw three more riders (one from Airlie and two from Hamilton Island) line up for the popular discipline of enduro racing.
All riders did exceptionally well with Jamie Jochheim missing a podium finish by 30 seconds in the open category and Chris Labes taking a win for the ladies. The WMTBC is looking for more members and invites anyone interested in the sport to join them this Saturday from 1pm for a free barbeque at Brandy Creek.
There will be 20 different demo bikes that riders can borrow and everyone is welcome to join in on any of the guided rides hosted by the club on the day.
