Building about to start at new lifestyle community

Whitsunday Times - - CHILL -

BUILDING is expected to start on the first houses in Regatta Waters within the next month.

A total of 21 blocks have sold in the first stage of the development and titles will be issued on those blocks next week.

Regatta Waters will eventually include 2500 prime home-sites. The first stage includes 49 blocks.

Marketing manager for the project Steve Marks said there could be up to 30 homes built before Christmas this year.

The estate will be home to an 18-hole architecturally designed golf course as well as a lifestyle centre including a pro-shop, gymnasium and pool.

“It is projected that within three years, the first nine holes will be released and the lifestyle centre will be open,” he said.

He said that of the 21 blocks sold so far, and 70 percent had been sold to locals. There has also been lot of interest from Brisbane as well as interstate, particularly Sydney.

There are three Sydney investors and two couples who are moving to the area to live at Regatta Waters.

Mr Marks said there had been an increase in sales in recent weeks as more work on the lifestyle community was completed.

The prices for a block of land start at $170,000. “When we started more than 12 months ago, the average sale price for a block in Cannon- vale was $136,000. It’s now $166,000 but we haven’t increased our prices,” he said.

Out of every lot sale, the developer is contributing $10,000 towards ensuring the golf course and lifestyle centre goes ahead.

“This is to give buyers the confidence that these amenities will be provided,” Mr Marks said.

He said the developer was aware of the need to ensure all buyers were confident.

Mr Marks said the developer was also committed to working with the local community.

“We have had a lot of local tradesmen here over the past 18 months. At one stage, there were up to 100 people on site,”

“If we get 30 houses built this year, that will also provide a lot of work for a lot of local tradesman.”
