Twilight sailors chart new course

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

TWILIGHT racers with the Whitsunday Sailing Club (WSC) experienced a new course last week, thanks to race officer Shane Beyer and volunteers Chris Reinbott and Paul Barry.

The trapezoid course, created for the 2014 WSC sailing guide, used four rounding marks instead of following the triangular course that has been raced for a long time.

The wind had its usual Pioneer Bay variations in strength and direction, but conditions were as enjoyable as ever, with the accolades for first place and best start winner in Division 1 going to Quickskips, skippered by Peter Millar.

Division 2 was won by Sandpiper (Chris Chengody), who came in ahead of Wobbly Boot (Craig Piccinelli) and Bobby D (Ross Winterbourn), in the second and third spots.

Division 3 prizes went to Masquerade (Tom Vujasinovic) in first, with High Tide (Shannon Hart), in second and Kameruka (Bob Beale) third.

Mr Vujasinovic said he thoroughly enjoyed the different course and hoped competitors would see more of them in the future.

Only one boat failed to sail the course correctly and two found themselves without the relevant instructions on board. Knowing his sailing instructions were on the table at home, Don Algie ( Storm 2) battled alongside Charles Wallis ( Reignition) with both needing to take a few mid-leg zig zags to reach the correct marks.
