Wet weather doesn’t de­ter keen lo­cal golfers

DE­SPITE Cy­clone Ita hov­er­ing men­ac­ingly to the north, the weather failed to de­ter a good turn-out on Satur­day with 63 play­ers fight­ing it out over 18-holes in a 4BBB med­ley stable­ford event.

The win­ning pair was Wally Rein­tals and Paul Len­non who came in with a great score of 49 points, three ahead of run­ners-up Tony Sell­wood and Mick Bur­rows on 46.

The run­down com­prised Trevor Paroz and Dar­ren Jones, Larry Muller and Franz Baden­horst, Gavin Milne and Matt Bower, and Jim Cochrane and Greg Walker all on 45 points, with Dave Gates and Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther on 44, and Rob Smith and Ross Meade and Adam Stralow and Wayne Temby com­ing in with 43 points each.

Near­est-the-pins went to Richard Kelly on 2, Mick Bur­rows on 9, Matt Bluck on 13, and Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther on 16.

The two shot club was shared by Perri Simp­son who birdied 16, and Matt Bluck who put it down for two on13.

A good field of 56 play­ers turned out for last Thurs­day’s com­pe­ti­tion, which was a stroke event in two di­vi­sions over 18-holes, plus a 9hole com­pe­ti­tion.

Win­ner of Di­vi­sion 1 (0-18 hand­i­cap) was Rod Wecker with a fine nett 67, win­ning on count­back from run­ner-up Bill Woods.

In the run­down was War­ren Deighton on 69, Tony Wool­ridge, Jake Nurse and Mark Bell all on 70, and Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther win­ning on count­back from one other with a nett 71.

John Dodds won the Di­vi­sion 2 com­pe­ti­tion on a nett 69, two ahead of run­ner-up Rob Rai­teri on 71.

The run­down com­prised Harry Gel­latly on 72, Jim Dowell 73, with Joe Tay­lor, Peter Krause and Rob Wil­son all com­ing in with 74.

Jake Nurse won the 9-hole com­pe­ti­tion with 33½ on count­back from run­ner-up Mark Bell, also with 33½.

In the run­down were John Dodds, Bill Woods, Rob Wil­son and Rod Wecker all with 34, and Bren­don Me­harry with 34½.

Near­est-the-pins went to Trevor Paroz on 2, Bill Woods on 9, and Michael Ward on 13, and Pas­cal Ne­un­reuther on 16.

This Satur­day play­ers will be vy­ing for the monthly Ho­tel Metropole sin­gle stable­ford event over 18-holes, with Thurs­day play­ers fight­ing it out over both 9 and 18-holes in a sin­gle stable­ford event.

Tee times are avail­able to suit in­di­vid­ual play­ers from 6.30am on­wards, but please book times with the pro shop.


Twenty ladies turned out on Wed­nes­day for sin­gle stable­ford event which was won by Jenny Houn­sell with a score of 35 points.

She was fol­lowed closely by Caro­line Awdry in sec­ond place with a score of 33 points, and Bessie Simp­son with a score of 30 points in third place.

In the run­down was Ti­ina Rand­mae in fourth on 29 points, Mar­lene Gray in fifth on 29 points on count back from Rand­mae.

Mandy Pat­ter­son came in sixth on 28 points, while Jac­qui Wall fin­ished in sev­enth on 27 points.

There were many chip-ins with Mar­lene Gray on 14, Jac­qui Wall on 10, Di Dob­bins on 11, Caro­line Awdry on 11, and Toni Clauss for a birdie on 9.

Near­est-the-pin win­ners for this week were Reh Hull with her sec­ond shot on hole 16, Mandy Pat­ter­son with her third shot on hole 6, and Ber­nice Peter­son with her fourth shot on hole 17.
