Wet weather doesn’t deter keen local golfers
DESPITE Cyclone Ita hovering menacingly to the north, the weather failed to deter a good turn-out on Saturday with 63 players fighting it out over 18-holes in a 4BBB medley stableford event.
The winning pair was Wally Reintals and Paul Lennon who came in with a great score of 49 points, three ahead of runners-up Tony Sellwood and Mick Burrows on 46.
The rundown comprised Trevor Paroz and Darren Jones, Larry Muller and Franz Badenhorst, Gavin Milne and Matt Bower, and Jim Cochrane and Greg Walker all on 45 points, with Dave Gates and Pascal Neunreuther on 44, and Rob Smith and Ross Meade and Adam Stralow and Wayne Temby coming in with 43 points each.
Nearest-the-pins went to Richard Kelly on 2, Mick Burrows on 9, Matt Bluck on 13, and Pascal Neunreuther on 16.
The two shot club was shared by Perri Simpson who birdied 16, and Matt Bluck who put it down for two on13.
A good field of 56 players turned out for last Thursday’s competition, which was a stroke event in two divisions over 18-holes, plus a 9hole competition.
Winner of Division 1 (0-18 handicap) was Rod Wecker with a fine nett 67, winning on countback from runner-up Bill Woods.
In the rundown was Warren Deighton on 69, Tony Woolridge, Jake Nurse and Mark Bell all on 70, and Pascal Neunreuther winning on countback from one other with a nett 71.
John Dodds won the Division 2 competition on a nett 69, two ahead of runner-up Rob Raiteri on 71.
The rundown comprised Harry Gellatly on 72, Jim Dowell 73, with Joe Taylor, Peter Krause and Rob Wilson all coming in with 74.
Jake Nurse won the 9-hole competition with 33½ on countback from runner-up Mark Bell, also with 33½.
In the rundown were John Dodds, Bill Woods, Rob Wilson and Rod Wecker all with 34, and Brendon Meharry with 34½.
Nearest-the-pins went to Trevor Paroz on 2, Bill Woods on 9, and Michael Ward on 13, and Pascal Neunreuther on 16.
This Saturday players will be vying for the monthly Hotel Metropole single stableford event over 18-holes, with Thursday players fighting it out over both 9 and 18-holes in a single stableford event.
Tee times are available to suit individual players from 6.30am onwards, but please book times with the pro shop.
Twenty ladies turned out on Wednesday for single stableford event which was won by Jenny Hounsell with a score of 35 points.
She was followed closely by Caroline Awdry in second place with a score of 33 points, and Bessie Simpson with a score of 30 points in third place.
In the rundown was Tiina Randmae in fourth on 29 points, Marlene Gray in fifth on 29 points on count back from Randmae.
Mandy Patterson came in sixth on 28 points, while Jacqui Wall finished in seventh on 27 points.
There were many chip-ins with Marlene Gray on 14, Jacqui Wall on 10, Di Dobbins on 11, Caroline Awdry on 11, and Toni Clauss for a birdie on 9.
Nearest-the-pin winners for this week were Reh Hull with her second shot on hole 16, Mandy Patterson with her third shot on hole 6, and Bernice Peterson with her fourth shot on hole 17.
