Ju­niors to com­pete in Mackay this weekend

THE school hol­i­days be­gan with the some ter­rific ten­nis train­ing in the morn­ing ses­sions hosted at Cannonvale school courts.

All courts were in oper­a­tion with the young­sters en­joy­ing the mix of drills and match play.

They were a tired and happy bunch at the end of the ses­sion and many were pleased with their im­prove­ment.

The older play­ers did a great job as­sist­ing the younger mem­bers in a num­ber of the fun ac­tiv­i­ties.

Tues­day and Thurs­day evening so­cial ten­nis was a hit with a fan­tas­tic roll up on both evenings.

Solid ten­nis was the or­der of each evening.

Those out en­joy­ing the pleas­ant con­di­tions were Yoko Stim­son, Eileen Bright, Thomas Koeck and new­comer Toni Han­cuso, to name a few.

Tues­day and Satur­day af­ter­noon match- es were a de­light with the ladies at last out num­ber­ing the men.

Some en­ter­tain­ing bat­tles took part but as al­ways a “friendly cuppa and laugh” rounded out the af­ter­noon ses­sions.

The men play­ing their crafty style of ten­nis were Gra­ham Cur­tis, Keith Miles, Rex Robin­son and Tas­man Hag­ger.

Those in­ter­ested in watch­ing some epic ju­nior ten­nis matches over the Easter weekend should head down to the Mackay Mid North Open Age this weekend from April 1821.

The next Ju­nior De­vel­op­ment Squad (JDS) tour­na­ment will be held in Townsville next weekend on April 26-27.

In other news, weekly coach­ing will take place on the courts on Tues­day with the start of term 2, while just do it ju­nior so­cial ten­nis com­mences on Mon­day, April 28.
