Vets play in in­ter-club chal­lenge

MORE than 20 vet­eran golfers trav­elled to Collinsville on Tues­day to com­pete in an in­ter­club chal­lenge.

Play­ers from Collinsville, Home Hill, Bowen and Proser­pine were keen to travel the dis­tance and made the most of play­ing in near per­fect con­di­tions.

Home Hill’s Fred Mor­com was the win­ner of the men’s 18-hole com­pe­ti­tion on 38 points on count­back from run­ner-up Tony Wool­ridge (Proser­pine) also on 38.

In the ball run­down was Ron Jamieson (Proser­pine) on 37 points, ahead of Clive Hughes (Proser­pine), Les Johns (Proser­pine) and Alan Spencer (Collinsville) all on 35, and Tom Flem- ing (Proser­pine), Harry Gel­latly (Proser­pine), Dave Mor­ris (Proser­pine) and John Roser (Proser­pine) all fin­ish­ing with a score of 34.

The ladies 18-hole com­pe­ti­tion was taken out by Collinsville’s Mandy Fal­lon on 36 points, on count­back from Proser­pine’s Beryl Nos­wor­thy on 36.

In the ball run­down was Caro­line Awdry (Proser­pine) and Kather­ine Borer (Proser­pine) both on 35, fol­lowed by Anna Win­ter­bourne (Proser­pine) on 31, with Bev­er­ley Power (Home Hill) and Lyn Widt (Collinsville) fin­ish­ing with a score of 30.

A stan­dard club event will be held this Tues­day, April 22, at the Proser­pine Golf Course with an 11am hit off.
