Products help to promote Airlie Beach

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

VISITORS to Airlie Beach can now take a little piece of paradise home thanks to the latest initiative of SKAL Whitsunday and local business woman Lyn Gregson.

Together with the tourism organisation which pioneered the Airlie Beach Heart of the Reef brand, Ms Gregson, who is a director of the company Adelyn Retail, has developed unique Whitsunday clothing, gifts and souvenirs that are reasonably priced and sold in a num- ber of local stores. Merchandise includes thongs, beach towels, bags, visors, mouse mats, stubby coolers and rain ponchos, all featuring Airlie Beach Heart of the Reef artwork and logos, in the style of SKAL’s existing billboard campaign.

Ms Gregson, a SKAL member herself, said the creative combination of great imagery and a clever play on words, devised by locals Janet and Ralph Hogan, was the inspiration for this unique range of products.

“I could have put together my own collection of imagery to pursue my wish to offer something that had a unique selling proposition, but [I] decided [instead] to reinforce the branding of Airlie Beach Heart of the Reef,” she explained.

Ms Gregson plans to donate a percentage of the sales back to SKAL for further marketing of Airlie Beach and she is hopeful this will generate many thousands of dollars each year to support the billboard campaign and other initiatives.

Adelyn Retail manager Louise Norris said so far the merchandise had been well received.

“It’s actually quite exciting to think these products are going to travel the world,” she said.

Airlie Beach Heart of the Reef merchandise is available at Beachworx, Trading Post, Swim Swim Swim and Top Shop.
