Trashbags working on defensive strategy
THE Airlie Beach roller derby team have been training hard ahead of this weekend's bout.
Facing off against Bundaberg's Rum City Derby Dolls, the Airlie Beach Trashbags have been working on a strong defensive strategy to try to counter the Dolls' strong jammers.
Coach Heather 'Blame Canada' Knight thinks the team is ready for this challenge.
"The team has been training really hard and I can see the improvement in our defensive walls," Knight said.
"We played well in Rockhampton in February but this weekend we are going to be even stronger."
The Airlie Beach Trashbags play at 3pm.
Rockhampton play against Cairns at 5pm, and the winners of both games will play off in a final at 7pm.
The triple-header roller derby event takes place at the Whitsunday PCYC in Jubilee Pocket.
Doors open at 2.30pm and tickets are available at the door only.
There will be a barbecue and a bar to purchase drinks and all locals are invited to attend this family-friendly event.
The local team colours are hot pink and aqua, and supporter signs and colours are highly encouraged, to lend strength and show support to the home team.
