New entrance at Abell Point
VISITORS arriving at the Abell Point Marina, can now make use of a four-lane arrival and departure area, complete with designer Port Cochere’s.
The concourse area for buses, taxis, tour charters and drop offs, has another lane behind it, which connects to the car park for long term parking.
The entrance way is now also lined with the first group of what is expected to number about 50 flag poles, all flying the flags of the world and in particular, representing the nationalities of people who come to the marina, whether by land or by boat.
Marina owner Paul Darrouzet said construction on the entrance way and Port Cochere’s finished last week, adding to the new architectural theme of the marina’s south village.
Already, large passenger numbers from two cruise ships and regular ferry transports have put the newest addition to the facility to the test and Mr Darrouzet says he is thrilled with the results.
“Thousands of people have arrived and departed in the last few days without one single hold up or hitch and that includes hundreds of buses and taxis,” he said.
“It’s all happened seamlessly – happy days.” Mr Darrouzet said the new arrangement allowed for 10 buses to line up at any one time, along with 1015 taxis, plus normal arrival and departure drop-off’s.
Next on the agenda is a dredging program, which starts today and will see the transferral of 50,000 cubic metres of mud, from the marina seabed to the former “mud pond”, which is scheduled to become a community park. Mr Darrouzet has already brought in 8000 cubic metres of good topsoil to form a capping layer, before the area is grassed. A soundshell and wedding pavilion are among the added extras he plans to install when the park is complete.
Meanwhile the marina’s north village is also undergoing a transformation, due for completion on August 1.
