I would like to question the logic in the Whitsunday Regional Council cancelling development applications that are currently approved with the previous level of headworks.
As anyone with their finger on the property market will understand, things are tight, and this is why new developments are not being commenced.
To then suggest that a new building about to start construction is going to have its DA cancelled due to the expiration, and the new DA will have Headworks at 5 times the original approval, this development is no longer viable, this is in the region 15 per cent on top of the construction cost.
If council wants to increase revenue, wouldn’t the smart thing be to let these developments proceed, and so increase the work force, bring more people to town and also get $2500 per year for the rates on these new buildings.
Please councillors, understand, if you extend these DA’s and let the developer make a little bit of money for their risk, you will build your ongoing revenue stream.
