Mayor supports chase for supermoto titles

Whitsunday Times - - MOTORING -

WHITSUNDAY Mayor Jennifer Whitney has given the Whitsunday Motosport Club council’s backing to host the world titles.

The Whitsunday Raceway has been touted as a potential venue for the SuperMoto World Championships in 2018, after hosting the hugely successful Australian Supermoto Championships earlier this month.

“It would be fantastic for the Whitsunday region and local tourism if the 2018 world championships of supermoto racing were held here,” Cr Whitney said.

“I have spoken to the race organisers and council is happy to work with them to bring the event here.” Cr Whitney praised the club, highlighting the national titles as a glowing body of evidence.

Motorcycling Queensland president Derek Rumble last week submitted an expression of interest for the track to be considered for the world championships.
