Fam­ily Fun Day the big­gest yet

WHIT­SUN­DAY Reef Fes­ti­val or­gan­is­ers have hailed this year’s Tel­stra Fam­ily Fun Day as the most suc­cess­ful ever.

Air­lie Point was buzzing with ac­tiv­ity on Sun­day, with a huge swarm of chil­dren at­tend­ing.

Games and entertainment pro­vided the day’s spoils, with treasure hunts, donut eat­ing com­pe­ti­tions and even a selfie con­test.

“It was sim­ply the big­gest we’ve ever had,” Reef Fes­ti­val chair­woman Margie Murphy said.

“The treasure hunt had 312 en­tries and we’re es­ti­mat­ing in ex­cess of 1000 turned up through­out the day.”

Tel­stra Whit­sun­day or­gan­ised a se­ries of old-fash­ioned games, in­clud­ing three­legged and sack races, while also pro­vid­ing a tech tent – which en­abled kids to take self­ies.

The cir­cus per­form­ers were also pop­u­lar but the un­der­ly­ing mes­sage of the fes­ti­val was not for­got­ten, with sev­eral reef-ori­en­tated or­gan­i­sa­tions also pro­vid­ing ed­u­ca­tional stalls.

“Or­gan­is­ers and team Tel­stra were very happy with all the con­trib­u­tors and the at­ten­dance through­out the day,” Ms Murphy said.

The Bendigo Bank Starlight Cin­ema was also well at­tended on Sun­day night, where The Se­cret Life of Wal­ter Mitty was screened.

The Starlight Cin­ema will re­turn to­mor­row night at Air­lie Point, show­ing Mon­sters Univer­sity.
