Family Fun Day the biggest yet
WHITSUNDAY Reef Festival organisers have hailed this year’s Telstra Family Fun Day as the most successful ever.
Airlie Point was buzzing with activity on Sunday, with a huge swarm of children attending.
Games and entertainment provided the day’s spoils, with treasure hunts, donut eating competitions and even a selfie contest.
“It was simply the biggest we’ve ever had,” Reef Festival chairwoman Margie Murphy said.
“The treasure hunt had 312 entries and we’re estimating in excess of 1000 turned up throughout the day.”
Telstra Whitsunday organised a series of old-fashioned games, including threelegged and sack races, while also providing a tech tent – which enabled kids to take selfies.
The circus performers were also popular but the underlying message of the festival was not forgotten, with several reef-orientated organisations also providing educational stalls.
“Organisers and team Telstra were very happy with all the contributors and the attendance throughout the day,” Ms Murphy said.
The Bendigo Bank Starlight Cinema was also well attended on Sunday night, where The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was screened.
The Starlight Cinema will return tomorrow night at Airlie Point, showing Monsters University.
READY TO RACE: Grace Male, 10, and Tia Gibbs, 11, prepare for the threelegged race at the Telstra Family Fun Day on Sunday at Airlie Point.
HAVING A BALL: Vicky Philippi, Thomas, 10, and Jesse Dayton, 13, clown around during fun day festivities on Sunday.
