Riders gearing up for Club Championships
THE Whitsunday Motosports Club is gearing up for the Club Championships next weekend.
Whitsunday Raceway will host the action-packed event, with riders from Townsville and Mackay set to compete in round 2 of the four round series.
Whitsunday Motosports Club president Andrew Auld backed his riders to do well come August 16-17.
“They’d be high [the club’s chances]. We’ve got some good local riders around at the moment,” he said.
“We haven’t done a great deal of riding lately so everyone is really keen to get back on the track. We will get a strong crowd up from Townsville and Mackay so we should see a lot of good, competitive racing.” Auld said home track knowledge would count for little now most of north Queensland’s riders had raced on the course.
“A lot of the other guys have ridden on the track too. Everyone knows it now so it will come down to who’s the fastest on the day,” he said. Round 3 is set for September 7 while the series will conclude with round 4 on November 16. Round 1 was held in April.
In other news, the Mackay Drifting Club attended the ra- ceway at the weekend, with more than 40 cars competing.
The event featured a rare night run on Saturday, which by all accounts proved espe- cially entertaining.
