Huge field for Prossie Open

IN THE year’s big­gest week­end of golf, the win­ners of the Proser­pine Opens have been de­cided with a good show­ing by lo­cals.

Sun­day saw the 27-hole Men’s Open boast a field of more than 100 play­ers from around the district.

Club Cham­pion was even­tu­ally claimed by Pioneer Val­ley’s Peter Brit­tain, who fin­ished with a gross score of 113.

Proser­pine’s Rob Stan­ley fin­ished sec­ond (114), while nett win­ners for the A-grade were Neil Mor­ris (110.5) and Ross Richards (111.5).

The A1-grade ti­tle went to Proser­pine’s Chris Doblo on 122, five strokes ahead of Dar­ren Jones (127).

The nett A1 win­ner was Gary Scot­ford (113) ahead of Mick Leo (113.5).

Jake Nurse bested the B-grade field, card­ing 122 to romp away from Robert Wha­lan (134).

The nett win­ner was Peter Stone (108), ahead of Barry Mor­timer (110).

The bat­tler’s ti­tle in C-grade went to Mike Gri­d­ley (133), just four strokes ahead of Jim Cochrane (137).

Don Hope was the C-grade nett win­ner, fin­ish­ing with 102.5, marginally ahead of Dean Torti (108).

Near­est-the-pins went to Gavin Milne (no. 2), Calvin Buck­ton (no. 9), Jake Nurse (13) and Scott Wardroper (16).

Two of the club’s best play­ers blitzed the field of 120 play­ers on Satur­day to claim the Mixed Four­somes Open.

Gavin Milne and Tr­ish McNeill romped home with a score of 81, ahead of John Roser and Nola Gid­dens (85).

Lead­ing the nett re­sults were win­ners Scott and Linda Wardroper who came in with a nett score of 68, best­ing Trevor Paroz and Caro­line Awdry in sec­ond with 69.5.

The run­down com­prised Jake Nurse and Meg Lyons, David and Kate Brown­smith (71.5) while Perry Simp­son and Wendy Stur­wohld (72) fin­ished fifth.


Nine­teen ladies con­tested the four ball best ball weekly com­pe­ti­tion last Wed­nes­day.

Ti­ina Rand­mae and Ber­nice Pe- tersen claimed the day on 48 points, marginally ahead of Linda Wardroper and Mar­lene Gray (46).

Sue Smith and Viv Demar­tini (43) fin­ished third.

Near­est-the-pins went to Tr­ish McNeill (no. 9), Sue Smith (13), Lyn Muller (8) and Ti­ina Rand­mae (5).

The ladies will be con­tested a Tiger Woods sta­ble­ford on Au­gust 13.


The Dawnies trav­elled to Bowen on Sun­day, where Bruce Up- church came out vic­to­ri­ous (49/ 41).

Run­ner-up on the day was Jim Evans (54/46) ahead of Jill Ford (60/49).

Near­est-the-pins went to Upchurch (no. 3) and Tom Flem­ing (no. 7).

Bob Slater was the snake put­ter while Tim McBride fin­ished with the least num­ber of putts (14).

Al Greedy was the brad­man win­ner with 60/60.

This Sun­day the Dawnies will play on home turf, con­test­ing the front nine.
