Huge field for Prossie Open
IN THE year’s biggest weekend of golf, the winners of the Proserpine Opens have been decided with a good showing by locals.
Sunday saw the 27-hole Men’s Open boast a field of more than 100 players from around the district.
Club Champion was eventually claimed by Pioneer Valley’s Peter Brittain, who finished with a gross score of 113.
Proserpine’s Rob Stanley finished second (114), while nett winners for the A-grade were Neil Morris (110.5) and Ross Richards (111.5).
The A1-grade title went to Proserpine’s Chris Doblo on 122, five strokes ahead of Darren Jones (127).
The nett A1 winner was Gary Scotford (113) ahead of Mick Leo (113.5).
Jake Nurse bested the B-grade field, carding 122 to romp away from Robert Whalan (134).
The nett winner was Peter Stone (108), ahead of Barry Mortimer (110).
The battler’s title in C-grade went to Mike Gridley (133), just four strokes ahead of Jim Cochrane (137).
Don Hope was the C-grade nett winner, finishing with 102.5, marginally ahead of Dean Torti (108).
Nearest-the-pins went to Gavin Milne (no. 2), Calvin Buckton (no. 9), Jake Nurse (13) and Scott Wardroper (16).
Two of the club’s best players blitzed the field of 120 players on Saturday to claim the Mixed Foursomes Open.
Gavin Milne and Trish McNeill romped home with a score of 81, ahead of John Roser and Nola Giddens (85).
Leading the nett results were winners Scott and Linda Wardroper who came in with a nett score of 68, besting Trevor Paroz and Caroline Awdry in second with 69.5.
The rundown comprised Jake Nurse and Meg Lyons, David and Kate Brownsmith (71.5) while Perry Simpson and Wendy Sturwohld (72) finished fifth.
Nineteen ladies contested the four ball best ball weekly competition last Wednesday.
Tiina Randmae and Bernice Pe- tersen claimed the day on 48 points, marginally ahead of Linda Wardroper and Marlene Gray (46).
Sue Smith and Viv Demartini (43) finished third.
Nearest-the-pins went to Trish McNeill (no. 9), Sue Smith (13), Lyn Muller (8) and Tiina Randmae (5).
The ladies will be contested a Tiger Woods stableford on August 13.
The Dawnies travelled to Bowen on Sunday, where Bruce Up- church came out victorious (49/ 41).
Runner-up on the day was Jim Evans (54/46) ahead of Jill Ford (60/49).
Nearest-the-pins went to Upchurch (no. 3) and Tom Fleming (no. 7).
Bob Slater was the snake putter while Tim McBride finished with the least number of putts (14).
Al Greedy was the bradman winner with 60/60.
This Sunday the Dawnies will play on home turf, contesting the front nine.
