It’s time to get ready for our annual Fun Race
THE Whitsunday Sailing Club (WSC) is hoping to see plenty of locals on the water for this year’s Great Whitsunday Fun Race on Saturday, August 16.
With a large number of sailors in town throughout August for the 25th Vision Surveys Airlie Beach Race Week and Shag Islet Cruising Yacht Club Rendezvous, the 2014 fun race is expected to be justifiably popular once again.
WSC Commodore Jim Hayes said with fun race being a long-standing feature in the history of Airlie Beach, he hoped to see community members putting their boats in the water to take part.
“Fun race is about dressing your crew and boat up and having a great day on the water – you don’t have to be a sailor to join in,” he said.
Yachts of all sizes are expected to take part and as a non-competitive race, all boats including powerboats, can be on the water to join in the fun atmosphere.
Entries for fun race will be open on Friday, August 15 from 5-7pm and Saturday, August 16, from 9-10am. The race starts at 11am on Pioneer Bay.
The after party and presentations will be held at Whitsunday Sailing Club from 2pm.
Mr Hayes invited the community to head to the sailing club for these events.
BEST DRESSED: The Great Whitsunday Fun Race is an opportunity for boat owners and crews to dress themselves and their boats and enjoy a day of frivolity on the Whitsunday waters.
