It’s time to get ready for our an­nual Fun Race

THE Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club (WSC) is hop­ing to see plenty of lo­cals on the wa­ter for this year’s Great Whit­sun­day Fun Race on Satur­day, Au­gust 16.

With a large num­ber of sailors in town through­out Au­gust for the 25th Vi­sion Sur­veys Air­lie Beach Race Week and Shag Islet Cruis­ing Yacht Club Ren­dezvous, the 2014 fun race is ex­pected to be jus­ti­fi­ably pop­u­lar once again.

WSC Com­modore Jim Hayes said with fun race be­ing a long-stand­ing fea­ture in the his­tory of Air­lie Beach, he hoped to see com­mu­nity mem­bers putting their boats in the wa­ter to take part.

“Fun race is about dress­ing your crew and boat up and hav­ing a great day on the wa­ter – you don’t have to be a sailor to join in,” he said.

Yachts of all sizes are ex­pected to take part and as a non-com­pet­i­tive race, all boats in­clud­ing power­boats, can be on the wa­ter to join in the fun at­mos­phere.

En­tries for fun race will be open on Fri­day, Au­gust 15 from 5-7pm and Satur­day, Au­gust 16, from 9-10am. The race starts at 11am on Pioneer Bay.

The af­ter party and pre­sen­ta­tions will be held at Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club from 2pm.

Mr Hayes in­vited the com­mu­nity to head to the sail­ing club for these events.

BEST DRESSED: The Great Whit­sun­day Fun Race is an op­por­tu­nity for boat own­ers and crews to dress them­selves and their boats and en­joy a day of fri­vol­ity on the Whit­sun­day wa­ters.
