It’s time to nominate community champions
WHITSUNDAY residents have an opportunity to recognise the great work of local organisations and individuals through the upcoming Inclusive Community Champions (ICC) Awards.
Nominations are now open for the awards, which recognise and celebrate the venues, facilities, organisations and individuals that encourage and support their community, in an inclusive sense.
Mayor Jennifer Whitney said historically, the populations that experienced the greatest difficulty accessing venues and services, included people with a medical condition, temporary injury or disability and those aged over 60, plus parents with prams. Nominations can be made in six categories, including best sporting facility, best local business/community service provider, best government department or agency, best recreation/ leisure/entertainment venue or precinct, best tourism or accommodation provider and best individual.
Nominations close on September 12 and the winners will be recognised at a local presentation in October.
Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Spinal Injuries Australia website www.spinal.com.au/inclusivecommunitychampionsawards/.
